Meal Counting Collection Procedures
The district participates in the National School Lunch, Breakfast and Snack programs. Meal Counting Collection Procedures are listed as Board Policy.
Summer School Program:
1. National School Lunch Programs – The district follows the existing collection procedures.
2. Seamless Summer Feed Program – The district currently qualifies and offers the Seamless Summer Feed program in areas that are 50% Free and Reduced.
School sites that qualify for the seamless Summer Feed program offer meals to children age 18 and under during posted hours. This program is funded under the National School Lunch, Breakfast and Snack programs and complies with those regulations.
Collection Procedures are modified as follow:
Children collect a meal at the cafeteria and a Child Nutrition Service (CNS) employee using either a tally counter or a count sheet record the meal. At the end of the posted meal period, a count is taken from either the Tally counter or the count sheet and recorded on the daily log for reimbursable meal counts. The count is also compared to a tray count that is taken prior to the meal service to identify any potential problems. Reimbursement is claimed based on the tally counter or count sheet only.
