Communication With Parents/Guardians
Parent-Teacher Conferences

1. Parent-teacher conferences are encouraged whenever they may contribute to the improving or maintaining of student growth. Teachers and parents are encouraged to arrange such conferences at times mutually agreed upon.

2. In November of each school year, a period of time will be scheduled so as to allow teachers to conduct conferences with parents/guardians/caregivers.

3. Parents/guardians will be given reasonable advance notice of the day and time they are scheduled to be at school to confer with the teachers. The principal or designee will supervise conference scheduling and coordination among teachers.

4. Written conference reports which go home shall be kept in duplicate. The duplicate will be filed in each child's cumulative record file prior to the end of school year or before the record is transferred from the school.

Report Cards

1. Periodic reporting shall be made to the parents/guardians of each district student. This report shall show the grade the student has made in each area of study and shall also show his adjustment and conduct by citizenship grades.

2. Currently adopted report cards will be used. Duplicate copies of these cards will be filed in the student's cumulative record files.

3. The written reporting procedure will be supported by adequate conferencing as described above.

Other Communications

1. All written communications from teachers to parent/guardians must have prior approval of the principal. Duplicates of such communications shall be filed with the principal. Great care should be taken to see that such notes are carefully and correctly worded. Under no circumstances shall ungraded work be sent home.

2. Highly inflammatory or abusive notes from parents/guardians to the teachers must be referred to the principal. Such communications must not be answered by the teacher until discussed with the principal.

3. Teachers shall discuss unusual or potentially contentious situations with the principal.
