Board Bylaws

Orientation
New Board member orientations shall consist of, but not be limited to, the following:

1. A review of Boardsmanship, a publication of the California School Board Association. During the orientation the following chapters shall be emphasized:

Chapter V. Board Meetings
Chapter VI. Policy Making/A Primary Responsibility
Chapter VII. Board-Superintendent Relations
Chapter VIII. Staff Relations

2. A review of district bylaws contained in the district policy manual. The following articles shall be emphasized:

BB 9100 - Organizations
BB 9121-9123 - Officers of the Board
BB 9320 - Meeting Conduct

3. A review of the district's pamphlet listing all the schools in the district, the primary programs offered, and a comparison of district expenditures with the county average.

4. A reviewed of the district pamphlet, "Welcome From Your Board of Trustees."

The final part of the orientation will provide an opportunity for the new member to ask questions concerning the district or the role of Board members.

Newly-elected or appointed members also shall be encouraged to enroll in CSBA's Boardsmanship Academy program.
